friday find · MJ fever

who do you think of as:

THE

MJ?

for me there is only one answer.
and the answer is simple:
there are two MJs, duh!

Michael Jackson...the greatest entertainer who ever lived...his music shaped my entire childhood...nevermind that i was born 2+ years after his most amazing Thriller album released...nevermind i was only 3 when he came out with 'man in the mirror' (my favorite song)...i had his Dangerous album on tape, then cd, and then another cd once the first was completely scratched from overuse...i bought this old t-shirt because his brother MIGHT have signed it.

(deep breath)

to say the least, i'm a big fan.

funny thing is, this post is about the other MJ...

Michael Jordan...the greatest player to play in the NBA...the reason i rocked #23 when i hooped back in the day...the subject of many arguments between hubby and me who seems to think some guy named LeBron is better...this past weekend, at 50 years old, he dunked on a little kid, the replay was played on news stations around the country and i got SUPER excited every time i saw it...i was pumped from just seeing the picture!

needless to say, i'm also a big fan of this MJ.

so this thrifted find my husband scored two weeks ago definitely won him more than a few brownie points.

muse · rockin' out!

two words:
bruno. mars.

five more words:
my husband can't stand him.

but only because i might have a bit of a crush on him.
(hun, you have nothing to worry about. if i ever actually met him, i hear he's a solid foot shorter than me. ok that's not true. but he is only 5'5" which means, in heels, that's simply an uncomfortable height difference. and you know i love my heels!)

so back to bruno...
i went to see him in concert and, of course, had a blast!
and while i do think he is a beautiful man, i wasn't sure there would be anything too inspirational to blog about.  until he came out for the encore songs...and instead of jumping back on stage front and center, he popped up on the drums!

multi-talented!

here are a couple more pics from my dreamy 'date' with Bruno.

epic photo bomb from random tiger girl!

he's nice to look at. he can sing. he is a solo act but keeps his entire band front and center on the stage with him. and he can rock out on the guitar AND drums.

man. good thing he is short...

muse · art wall

two of my favorite portlandians (portlanders? portlandonians? p-towners?) came up to visit the other week.

and we found this wall.

so we took some pictures.

yes. yes. yes. yes.

we also found this mirror.

exploring + graffiti art + adult sorry (more on that later!) + burgers + ice cream + baseball

muse · oscar's edition

the Oscar's: they came. they went.
i was wrong on nearly all of my predictions.
went out of my way to see the best picture noms this year (missed Lincoln and Amour).
told everyone that my fave was Argo but, 'of course we know the media darlin' Les Mis will pull out the win!'
bummer on me. right?
but now i'm adding my own category to the biggest award show of the year:
best personal style (one character)
i love to highlight stylish individuals here at be·muse.
why not stylish characters in movies?
so (in no particular order), i give you my character style nominations for the past year of movies!

Effie Trinket
The Hunger Games

Django
Django Unchained

Katy Perry
Katy Perry: Part of Me
(love it or hate it - you gotta admit it's her own style)

Princess Merida
Brave
(that hair!!)

Selina (aka CatWoman)
The Dark Knight Rises

Evelyn Greenslade
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
(when i am 70+, i will have super chic hair and wear flowy outfits and accessories!)

so who should win? would you add anyone to the list? or maybe you want to argue about anyone i put on the list? (i'm up for a friendly debate.)

muse · 3 shout outs

allow me to indulge myself a bit. (again.)

first.
happy birthday to my husband! the greatest, sweetest, sexiest, funniest, most stylish guy i know.

yes, yes, he's appeared on my blogareedoo 2.5 times so far: here, here and 1/2 here.

but.
he's awesome and inspires me with his outfits on a daily basis.
perhaps i should start a blog dedicated to him? (ew, ew, i know. sooo cheesy. blech.)

anyway. today is his birthday: wish him happy day!

also, to give you something pretty to look at: below are works featuring TRISTAN from two of the most creative ladies i know.

they blow me away.

please feel free to stalk them!

i worked with TINA VAUGHN to create this gift for our anniversary. she's an incredible watercolor painter and graphic designer and one of my bestest friends. (lucky me!)

the inset picture was shot by THE ANDRIA LINDQUIST: a seattle-based photographer with the most amazing body of work. (be ready to get lost in her blog for hours at a time.)

happy monday all!

muse · oh for the love of leaves

i love leaves.

like, more than may be socially acceptable.

i love when they're on trees.
and i get super excited when they turn bright red·orange·yellow and
fall
...fall...
......fall......
to the ground.
but i become completely obsessed when the fallen leaves dry up and get crunchy.

don't say i didn't worn you if you're walking with me and we come across a street of crunchy leaves. whatever we were saying, i am NO LONGER LISTENING.

i am now in crunch mode.
every step i take..CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH.

these leaves here: they're not quite crunch ready.

but THIS is the very street i live on.

yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes.

muse · halloween special!

i had a party.
celebrity themed.
and some of the costumes were just too spot on (or too funny!) not to share!

so i give you:
my halloween celebrity muses.
(click the images to confirm who each of the muses are inspired by!)

one of the best movies of 2012.

they referred to themselves as 'before and after doping'.

turns out these two had a little controversy in 2010 (when she was still alive).

he's dating ellie goulding! (no, not my brother.)

don't you just love her?

the best couple in reality tv!

and my costume doesn't need an explanation, does it? happy halloween!

Swiftly Fifty!

today is my 50th post on be·muse.
and considering i just started this little blogareedoo a few months ago at the end of march...50...yeah, i'm tickled...tickled pink!

and instead of highlighting that one thing about someone that has recently inspired me·or·someone who left me just a bit dazed and confused the other day·or·even my latest thrift store score, this post is about my top 5 favorite posts: my favorite 10% of the blog so far.

and if you think i left an important one off the list...well...let me know!

#5

this was the first time i walked up to someone completely random with 'hi, i have a style blog and i'd love to take your picture.' i was so nervous! but she was great and so was her blazer...and right after that i ordered business cards so i seemed more legit!

#4

when i was little - like 8, 9, 10 years old - i rocked overalls. with one strap undone because i was "cool". (ha. not so much.) but this look is cool, stylish and totally her own. i love a true individual.

#3

i've tried not to highlight teenagers on the blog because so often they haven't found their own style voice yet: they wear what everyone is wearing. (anyone else disgusted with the uber short shorts with the pockets hanging out the bottom from this summer?) but i was diggin' this look...so i broke my own rule.

#2

so this was a BEmuse post, not a muse. but meeting her was so entertaining: i easily told 20 friends about our conversation before even posting her picture! even thinking back on our interaction has me smiling right now.

#1

i chased these two down to the 2nd floor (them on elevator, me on stairs). and they were so worth it.
