friday find · red and a bit of nostalgia

red is my absolute favorite color.
anything drenched in this hue immediately catches my eye.
and usually ends up in my home.

seriously.

each room in my home has a million red accent pieces. (although, it's probably not an accent color if nearly every blanket·throw pillow·vase·frame·candle rocks red, right?) it's disgustingly fab.

now that you know this about me, you may not be surprised that my 'thrifting eye' is repeatedly drawn to the hangers offering red surprises.

say hello! to my latest find.
IT'S RED!

oh hey! recognize my necklace?

and this fun little outfit addition was a stocking stuffer from the hubby this past christmas. so this is HIS friday find.
sweetness.

and yes, it's spring now and this look features me still rocking boots and tights... not to worry! i paired this same dress this past weekend in an outfit perfect for 'playing' outside and it was nearly 70 degrees! watch for a bonus friday find this month to see how...

friday find · holiday edition!

'tis the season.

of holly and berries.
drinks and being merry.

making memories with family and friends.

and. of course.

the holiday parties!

and this year, both the hubby and i were rockin' some of our fabulous finds at each different shin dig.

guess which parts of our looks are thrifted?

tie? suspenders? blazer?

mmhmm. yup. yes!

of course there are little santas on his suspenders.

love him too much.

don't count me out though!

my killer shirt?
scored it at the amazing consignment boutique i told you about this spring!

merry christmas to you and yours from me and him
may it be filled with love, laughter and maybe a couple pick-ups from your local thrift store. ;-)

friday find · glitter!

they call it the 'GLITTER SALE'! heard of it?

it's only the biggest sale Seattle's Goodwill has each year for the past 29 years!

i heard it's a great sale for low priced, gently-used, designer clothes, shoes and bags.
hmmm.
i've also heard that black friday is a great time to buy big-ticket electronics for a great deal.

that may be true.

but i'm the girl that gets up hours before the sun each day-after-thanksgiving and heads to target for everyday items...like hairbands. [true story: black friday 2009- ran into a friend at target, 5am. he was balancing a giant flat screen tv in his arms and i was waiting to pay for my 20-pack of hair elastics: hey, they disappear so quickly!]

this year i decided to check out the super popular glitter sale.  got there at 715am (doors opened at 9am) and i was the 355th person in line. (turns out fellow style blogger, tina, got in line at 445am and was #54. these people are SERIOUS.)

while i did snag a cute marc jacobs summer-y dress (watch for a future Friday Find featuring this score), i have two AWESOME favorites that i must share immediately!

#1

dear lara, why would you get rid of a shirt signed by a Jackson 5?!?!?

#2

sure, it's as big as my wrist...

ah, glitter sale - i get it now!

friday find · being ballsy

wood.
fuschia.
pearl-ish.
vintage-y.

another thrifted score.
it's funky, fun and, while it used to be totally someone else, it's now totally me.
mine.

paired with a polka dot button up, perfect for the office.

muse · as the summer sun sinks

today marks the end of summer. and as we bid the season goodbye, let's enjoy a moment of silence for the breezy, dreamy clothes we love to wear in the heat.

moment of silence over!

JESS paired her nautical maxi-skirt with over-sized glasses, loose curls and fun, understated jewelry.
the quintessential summer look.

goodbye tank tops.
goodbye maxi skirt.
(wait! no! maxi skirt YOU can stay! just add a great jacket like this one or this!)
goodbye bare feet.
'til next year.

muse · i scream

the sign bid me 'hello' from afar.

hello! and YAY! (my reply)

and then...a vision. can it be? an ice cream man in a bubblegum ice cream colored shirt - stripes, of course - and a hat to match?

oh yes. if i worked in an ice cream shop, i would rock this every single day.

thanks for the ice cream mr. fabulous!

muse · the 70s reloaded

some clothes should stay in the decade from which they came.  this is probably true for most of the clothes people rocked in the 70s.

but this is not a rule.
it's not always the case.

as i watched this style-maven stroll down the street, i started singing the Bee Gees' 'You should be dancing' because, really, it just fits, right?

nice pants. nice hat. and, hard to see, but, awesome tassel purse.

friday find · inspired by those 7 guys

(starting today, at least one friday each month i'll be posting a thrift-store-inspired blog.)

what's the first rule of thrifting that all stylish thrifters know?

what is the most intimidating part of thrifting for me?
the dig dig digadig dig.

but. it doesn't take much digging to look through the jewelry.  so i've started there.

and look what i found?
this beautiful ram necklace - i'm pretty convinced no one else is rockin' this piece and that makes it a killer find.

so be*muse family...what is your best thrifted jewelry score?

muse · unplanned black and yellow

when life hands you lemons...make lemon bars. (what? i prefer sweets to drinks.)

when, out of nowhere, a butterfly lands on your shirt, start posing for pictures baby, because that's the best accessory we've ever seen!

(yes, this was during a parade. spotlight --> STOLEN!)

muse·in power patterns

"it's called 'power-clashing' and i do it because i can."
- jack donaghy, 30 Rock

TRISTAN is back and he's power clashing patterns like nobody's business. and look how the bow-tie matches the shoes. i love a man who knows how to accessorize!

muse·we have a winner!

a few weeks ago we announced the first INDIVIDUAL STYLE competition on facebook and on the blog here.

and how gorgeous is CHELSEA MAE, our winner??

in her nomination, SHALIKA writes: "(She) has what I call "Easy Breasy" style. She can make a simple pair of jeans and white tee look like a million bucks. Not only does she have style and class, she has an infectious laugh that will make a stone faced man smile!"

agreed.

double bonus: she loves rockin' bright colors (style win!) and thrifting fabulous finds (win times 2!).

meet chelsea mae.

love the layers!

yup, a thrift store find!

several bags of yard sale scores!

chelsea mae and shalika...it's great to have fabulous friends!

p.s. both chelsea mae and shalika won $20 starbucks gift cards as part of the contest. watch for other contests in the future so you can win too!

p.p.s. with all that thrifting chelsea mae does, sometimes she even shares her scores. check out her etsy shop.

muse·in the rain

oh seattle, how do i love you?  3/4 of the year, you promise to deliver a bit of rain at some point during any given month. THANK GOD for august and september!

match your cute umbrella to your cute purse, throw on a scarf and some heels...i guess you don't mind rain if you can bring out your cute accessories!

see how the scarf sways? work that strut girl!

muse·and 2 wrongs DO make a right

overalls...a tough, tough look to pull off.  most people should just avoid them at all costs.

over-accessorizing...oh boy, this can be such a problem.  enough of a problem that it inspired one of the most famous fashion quotes of all time:

"Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off."
~ Coco Chanel

but.
rules are made to be broken.

overalls and over-accessorizing? girl, you've got MAJOR style!

muse·in anticipation of summer

it's coming... sun, summer and the happiest weather you'll ever find! and JEN is the most adorable aesthetician you'll ever, ever find! how fun that this is what she gets to wear to work?

of course the belt is fab, but my favorite part (and what you can't see too well in the picture) is that she's rockin' a gold watch and bangle on the SAME wrist...simple...but so perfect.

muse·in the numbers

a fashionista friend of mine explains that before leaving her house, she makes sure her outfit has between 8 and 12 individual pieces: counting clothes, shoes, accesories, and sometimes even hairstyle.
STEPH is a textbook example of what you SHOULD wear to work!

1 - Black skinnys     2 - Flowy cream tank     3 - Blue blazer
4 - Oversize pearl necklace     5 - Shiny cuff     6 - Gold watch
7 - Simple stud earrings     8 - Braided bangs     9 - Divalicious heels
FABULOUS!

muse·in style, always

they say: true beauty is ageless. i'd attest: genuine style is forever. LINDA bought this jacket 10 years ago.
BAM.
